We go over the most common expenses for you to keep an eye on with you solar panels.

It’s essential to keep your panels in good shape to guarantee optimal energy production, but at what cost to you? Like all things, the better you take care of it, the easier and less expensive it is to keep in good shape. Your solar panel maintenance is no different!

What Types of Expenses Should I Be Aware Of?

At Ion Solar, we stress with our field team experts to make sure all additional costs and expenses are made aware to the customer before the install begins. While each state’s individual costs may vary, here is what you can expect on average to prepare for.

Annual Inspections

The most frequent expense you will see for solar panel maintenance is an annual inspection. The average price for an inspection ranges from $150-$300. The Solar America Board for Codes and Standards recommends that all annual inspections check the following:

  • Water damage or roof penetrations
  • Roof drainage issues
  • Vegetation growth and shading
  • Ground erosion for ground mount systems
  • Proper signage
  • Appropriate expansion joints
  • Corrosion on enclosures and racking system
  • Cleanliness of site
  • Loose hanging wires in the array
  • Animal infestation

Cleaning Your Panels

You’ve passed the inspections, but you’ve noticed your panels aren’t quite as clean as they used to be; now what?

Thumbtack reports the average solar panel cleaner rangers from $100-$120. You can use their locator to find someone in your budget near you here. Some cleaners will even provide an option to clean a single panel instead of the entire system.

What Can I Do To Keep My Expenses Low?

While we will never endorse neglecting solar panel maintenance, in our blog post: How to Maintain Your Solar Panels Year Round, we go over a few tips and tricks to ensure the longevity of your system! Most important is that you make sure when examining your solar panels, safety is key. Please contact a professional if you are unable to properly and safely inspect your system.
